Genocide Joe

Genocide Joe is a nickname that has been predominantly used by a heterogeneous group of people, most notably right-wing nationalists and progressives, to allege that Joe Biden and his administration is complicit in genocide during its handling of the Israel–Hamas war.[1] Since the beginning of the war, it has become a leading chant of pro-Palestinian and anti-Biden groups.[2]

History[edit]

In April 2024, supporters of former President Donald Trump used it during a rally, to which Trump responded that they were "not wrong".[1]

Response[edit]

Another anti-Biden sign.

Tim Miller of The Bulwark has criticized the phasing.[3]

Biden administration[edit]

John Kirby, who serves as the White House National Security Communications Advisor, has responded to the use of the phase by saying:[4]

People can say what they want on the sidewalk and we respect that. That’s what the first amendment’s about... But this word genocide’s getting thrown around in a pretty inappropriate way by lots of different folks. What Hamas wants, make no mistake about it, is genocide. They want to wipe Israel off the map.

The Biden administration has rejected the claim that genocide is occurring in Gaza.[4]
