Hi,

I'm requesting my account be unblocked and my username changed to Insurance2024. I believe my account was blocked because the username could be misconstrued as promotional and because I made large-scale edits. As a journalist, I understand the importance of neutral language. If there was specific language you found promotional, I'd be happy to revise it.

The Wikipedia page for Ambac has not been edited in years, and it includes outdated and inaccurate information. For example, it states that Ambac and its subsidiaries provide financial guarantee products such as bonds (but Ambac stopped selling financial guarantee products in 2008). It lists AMBCW as an Ambac ticker symbol (but the warrants expired, so that ticker symbol is no longer active). It lists two subsidiaries (but the company now has six, and one of the subsidiaries on the Wikipedia page has a new name). The financial results are from 2009. Only two of Ambac's five active operating businesses are mentioned. It references 2010 stock info in the present perfect tense (indicating the stock price from 2010 is still accurate, which it isn't). It lists a former CEO by his surname only.

Wikipedia's usefulness hinges on the accuracy and relevance of the information it provides. My edits were intended to 1) remove inaccurate/outdated information, 2) add missing information about the current business structure, 3) make the history understandable, and 4) provide updates on how the 2008 mortgage crisis issues eventually were resolved.

Your original username suggests that you work in a communications position at Ambac. If you are employed by Ambac, then you have a mandatory obligation to disclose this fact per Wikipedia's non-negotiable paid editing disclosure policy.

Admins may insist that you avoid directly editing the Ambac article as a condition of your unblock. Editors with a conflict of interest are directed to make edit requests on the article's associated talk page (in this case, Talk:Ambac). --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 19:42, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
