Protection for Ghassan Abu Sittah[edit]

Hi! I noticed you have had issues with user Iskandar323 maliciously editing and then violating bans example you used on his talk page. I have been having some issues with him wholesale deleting sections I added without engaging on the topic on Ghassan Abu-Sittah. I am reverting the changes and have added new sources from the Times but would appreciate if you could step in and clarify so we do not devolve into an edit war. Tennisist123 (talk) 21:37, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I was away in the backcountry without internet access. Has this been resolved? Schwede66 07:35, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He hasn't edited since. I will notify you if that changes. Hope you had a nice Easter trip! Tennisist123 (talk) 19:19, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did; thank you! Schwede66 20:22, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, @Schwede66 there were some huge revisions to the page made recently by Makeandtoss which were not discussed in the Talk page prior, do you mind stepping in and starting a dialogue about the changes? Some very strong sources were removed and the Controversies section was buried within the greater career which I do not believe is reasonable as his controversies have to do with political statements made by Abu Sittah and not his work as a plastic surgeon. I am too young an account to revert and want a more senior opinion before launching a discussion. Tennisist123 (talk) 10:26, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, Tennisist123. I'd rather not get involved in an area where I lack knowledge. You can always place {{Template:Admin help}} on an article's talk page and that'll summon some admin who's able and willing to help. Schwede66 02:40, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tip and for looking into it!

Hi Schwede66, I accidently misspelled "Sumida Park". It would be helpful if you could rename the file. Thanks. (I'll be very careful next time when adding files to Commons not to misclick)

Recent changes[edit]

Adding the Cleanup red links template like this, this, and this is truly not constructive, especially since you have not applied it to the equivalent existing pages for other years, which have existed for years now. It's a clear case of micromanaging recent changes and it just adds an eyesore template to otherwise pleasant articles. Easier to critique than to create, I suppose. Rowing007 (talk) 00:11, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If there are existing World Rowing Junior Championships that suffer from the same problem, Rowing007, then we should apply the same tag there. And with regards to your criticism (Easier to critique than to create, I suppose), you might want to check out this page to see how embarrassing your comment is. Schwede66 00:17, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am well-aware of your past contributions, and knew about them before making the comment. I am not "embarrassed" at all, because your past contributions do not take away from the fact that your addition of the template in these instances was, to put it bluntly, the lazy way out; it created more work instead of directly solving the perceived issue. If you tout your past contributions so proudly, I find it all the more ironic that you didn't put your money where your mouth is, in this case. Refer to my original comment to avoid going around in circles with this. Thanks. TL;DR you were not thorough here, regardless of your past contributions. Rowing007 (talk) 00:24, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are entitled to your opinion. Schwede66 00:25, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. Just out here trying to improve the wiki by creating these missing pages; slow process. Rowing007 (talk) 00:30, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have now applied the tag to all years; they all suffer from the same problem. I hope you did not get the impression that I was picking on you, Rowing007. When a new page of this nature gets set up, there is always going to be a link included to a page that I once wrote, and hence I get a notification. That's why I looked at your three pages; I'm not stalking you or anything like that. Schwede66 01:56, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Rowing007 (talk) 12:04, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Armagh Street Park Bridge[edit]

Hi! Hope things are well with you! Forgot all about this article... even how it is that I came to add some bits. Curious how is it that it got to mainspace now? As for DYK, sure, if you feel up to it. My interests have shifted and I just don't participate in that area anymore. And thanks for the ping; nice to reconnect. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:50, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Schwede66. Thank you for your work on 1867 New Zealand census. Another editor, Dclemens1971, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Thank you for creating this article!

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Dclemens1971}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Dclemens1971 (talk) 03:17, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, that's a cute message, Dclemens1971. All I did some 8 years ago was to set up a redirect. You might want to thank Wainuiomartian for actually writing the page. Schwede66 03:50, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NZ Census articles[edit]

Hi, I hope this is the right place to contact you. I am working my way through New Zealand census pages, adding content and infoboxes. The infoboxes are not consistent - some say Country: New Zealand and some say Colony of New Zealand. Since the heading of the infobox says "Fifth census of the Colony of New Zealand" (or whichever it is), is it okay to just use 'New Zealand' for the country? Anything else I should attend to? Thanks. Wainuiomartian (talk) 20:58, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for tidying up that series and writing missing editions, Wainuiomartian. I’ve had to think about that and look around now. I’ve concluded that "New Zealand" should be used in the infoboxes. In the end, I’ve cast my eye over 'what links here' for the Colony of New Zealand article and if it was generally referred to from equivalent articles (e. g. YYYY in New Zealand), I would have seen it there, but that wasn’t the case. With regards to content, if you get guidance from the more developed articles, you should be good.
Unrelated to the above, let me take the opportunity to thank you for your very good work on a certain biography. It’s much appreciated. Schwede66 21:34, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! Wainuiomartian (talk) 02:47, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Auto patrolled request[edit]

Hey, hope you're doing fine. I've done everything you have suggested me do here, and followed the edit summary instructions you've given such as default sorting my previous articles, fixing PP and P in citations, using SFN template and using Book or Journal templates in Bibliography, etc. I've also created half a dozen new articles as per your suggestion, and I believe they are unproblematic. Regards. X (talk) 04:55, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks. Please copy the request to WP:PERM/A, Xoak. Schwede66 05:14, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. That Mussel Inn video was wholesome. Checked your activities and read some news articles on you. You've been really great and creative. Thanks for all your work and time on this project. X (talk) 05:20, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Main page photo[edit]

Good evening! Could you add the current main page in the news photo to the category commons:Category:May 2024 solar storms in Australia? --Prosperosity (talk) 07:34, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and commons:Category:May 2024 in Melbourne. --Prosperosity (talk) 07:40, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, sorry. I can't. I'm not an admin on Commons, Prosperosity. Like you, I'll have to wait until the protection comes off, and then everyone can do that. Schwede66 08:54, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries! The image finally lost protection so I've been able to do it just now. Prosperosity (talk) 20:50, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol request[edit]

Hi Schwede! I would like to inquire about the status of my autopatrol rights application, which has been pending for two weeks. I have noticed that you have already reviewed four applications that were submitted after mine. Please inform me if there is any issue with my application that is contributing to the delay. Thanks! - Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 05:34, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It’ll happen. There’s sometimes quite a bit of jumping around regarding the order of assessments. Schwede66 08:34, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are invited to join the discussion at WP:THQ § Error message. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:21, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Schwede66. The above-mentioned Wikipedia Teahouse question is related to Filip Geljo, which you had indefinitely protected as a redirect earlier this year due to persistent vandalism. I don't think the creation of the article is vandalism, but I'm not whether the page's protection needs to be change now that the page is no longer a redirect. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:25, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know, Marchjuly, that it’s now an article. I’ve removed the protection. Schwede66 15:22, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Schwede66. The Slovakia PM had already been up over 24h. Is there a specific reason that you swapped it back and removed the Singapore PM so soon? —Bagumba (talk) 21:55, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Bagumba, I wanted to do what you had done a few minutes before me. Brain fade! I've self-reverted. Schwede66 22:42, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. It wouldn't have been the first time I did something absent-minded. Best. —Bagumba (talk) 04:22, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined request[edit]

Hello. I noticed you declined my request for autopatrolled. In your edit summaries on my talk pages you say "still a stub (not enough prose)", but the way I write my articles are perfectly fine. In that diff you shown that "I removed the bare URLS" tag is when I added info to an reference, I did not remove anything because it was still there also same as the orphan tag, but I linked my articles. I forgot to remove the orphan tag off the article and forgot to fill in one more bare URL. Next, I removed the bare URLS tag. The diffs you give don't have anything to do with what you are saying. "As an aside, removing unpleasant messages from your talk archive is not something you should do.", but sometimes I do want to have an talk page archive, sometimes I don't. The way I use my dashes is in what my computer uses, not endashes per MOS:DASH. The categories are alright, what are wrong with them? You did not say anything about that. You went ahead and fixed the dashes in my articles. Stubs are okay and they have no problem, even if they are "short" like I said about your edit summaries. Thank you. TheGreatestLuvofAll (talk) 13:14, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

TheGreatestLuvofAll, it shouldn't worry you one bit whether you are autopatrolled, as it gives you zero benefits. Being autopatrolled is of benefit to new page patrollers. The only reason that some editors are obsessed with this user right is because of hat collecting, which isn't looked upon favourably. If you disagree with my decision, please feel free to post another request at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled; I will leave this for another admin to assess. Schwede66 20:28, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Schwede66 No it is alright. I was just posting this because I couldn’t comment on the RFP because it was archived by a bot and I was on break that time. I do want rights but I know I have a lot of things in the way to obtain rights. I will try again next time. Thanks again. TheGreatestLuvofAll (talk) 21:15, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Errors on main page[edit]

Please, How do I post comments, corrections correctly? I get to the correct page & then what? It’s not obvious to me. Wis2fan (talk) 03:32, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Head to Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors and post the item under the appropriate heading. Does that help, Wis2fan? Schwede66 03:52, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, no. I already go to WP:ERRORS, but once there I don’t go to the right spot. I find it confusing. Since I’m usually commenting on POTD, which box do I click on? Wis2fan (talk) 03:55, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have the choice between Today's POTD (if the item is already live) or Tomorrow's POTD (if it's the item that is going to replace what's currently on the main page). Schwede66 03:57, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but I have no idea how to achieve that. Schwede66 16:40, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Meiner Meinung, misplaced priorities. We're here to serve the readers, not to perpetuate EWiki internal procedures. The existing sogenannte blurb is a cognitive nightmare. – Sca (talk) 16:11, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe so. But discussion of guidelines and procedures at ERRORS is misguided, Sca. Schwede66 16:39, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not if one is a reader. -- Sca (talk) 16:55, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It’s misguided because it’s the wrong place. Errors gets wiped at noon UTC. It’s of no use having a discussion that won’t even be archived. Those discussions belong on project talk pages, where they can go on for however long it is necessary to reach consensus. Meaningful change can only result from getting right to the core of issues. The fast-paced environment that ERRORS provides is simply the wrong venue. Schwede66 17:11, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Noted. But what bothers me is, the errant blurb still is/was there at 18:00 (7 p.m. UK time). Oh well. – Sca (talk) 18:08, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is no doubt in my mind that Wikipedia is sometimes a frustrating place for those who create and curate content. Schwede66 21:33, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. Thank you. To be clear, this is just a courtesy notice, you're not accused of wrongdoing.Teratix 08:06, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up, Teratix. I'll have a look and respond accordingly. Schwede66 20:45, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Since you specifically mentioned Australians turn up to the New Zealand online meetups, I take it the invitation you kindly extended on COIN was in part directed at me. Unfortunately, I would feel a bit awkward coming with my only substantial interaction with the NZ Wikimedia community being a COI complaint, which doesn't reflect my positive broader views on your work. – Teratix 16:43, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the confusion, Teratix. I mentioned Australians to convey the fact that it’s more than a domestic meeting; it would thus not be odd for overseas editors to be there. I did not know that you are Australian and the invite was not targeted at you. It was an invite to all editors who have that notice board on their watchlist. If you choose to attend, I’d be interested in your feedback afterwards. Schwede66 19:12, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, now the discussion has slowed down a bit, I'd be interested in having a look over the collection of sources you mentioned as contributing to notability so I can make a more informed comment on the AfD. – Teratix 05:40, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that is a mighty task. Set some time apart. Here's a link, Teratix. Start with the tab "Read me" in the spreadsheet. Latest media coverage is from today and I have it on my task list to write an article for Sams Creek, Wikidata Q125664775. I'll do so via AfC so that the output can be checked for NPOV, given that I've voiced concern via that newspaper.
Have you had a look at the COI presentation? We had one Australian in the meeting. Schwede66 06:03, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link. I had a look over the COI slides, they seemed like an excellent rundown. – Teratix 17:23, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If there’s ever a need to give this presentation to a group of editors, I’d be more than happy to do so (time zones permitting). But as I said, anyone can help themselves to the slides; I’ve given them an open license. Schwede66 20:27, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm having trouble understanding what's going on with these messages left in an initial draft revision of the article. In the first message, I dig some searching for references myself since first receiving his email – what email is that referring to? The second message seems to be written by you, but I'm having trouble understanding its context – who it's meant to be addressed to and so on. – Teratix 17:23, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The content of the email is pasted into that version of the draft. I sent it to Marshelec and he forwarded it to Wainuiomartian, who transferred those notes into the draft. That is, it’s the same message as I left for you above, just in more detail. Does that clarify things? Schwede66 20:23, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I sent it to Marshelec In response to something he sent you or unprompted? Before or after this query? – Teratix 07:28, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The backstory is that the day before the Mohua / Golden Bay edit-a-thon, we had an in-person committee meeting of WANZ at my place (9 Feb 2024). My wife joined us for lunch and she put to the committee that "there's a notable person in your midst who does not have a Wiki bio; what are you going to do about it?" And before you ask, no, I did not ask her to put that question to the committee; that was her idea. As part of the resulting conversation, I was asked to proof that I'm notable by compiling sources that demonstrate that. Hence, I put together the spreadsheet and sent it to Marshelec, who had taken on the task of finding an uninvolved editor. Schwede66 07:48, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks, that context clears up a lot. – Teratix 13:40, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Admin's Barnstar
For exemplary openness, willingness to answer questions from random internet strangers, commitment to administrator accountability and respecting the conflict of interest guidelines. – Teratix 13:42, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Teratix. I very much appreciate the barnstar. I've always been a conscientious editor and as an administrator, I try to set a positive example of how we should all conduct ourselves. Schwede66 22:41, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Teratix, I see that you've had a chance to review the sources as you commented on that in the AfD, and that the AfD has now closed. Would you, by chance, be interested in reviewing Marshelec's edits for NPOV and make any modifications as you see fit? If it's better for transparency's sake to ask this on the relevant talk page, please say so and I'll copy this query to there. Schwede66 00:06, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've had a pass at the easiest paragraphs. The issue's not necessarily with tone – it's more a case of overrelying on brief mentions or non-independent sources and thus failing to balance aspects in proportion to how reliable sources cover them. Fixing this properly would be a pretty big job: it's a task more on the order of a substantial rewrite and restructuring rather than modifying existing edits. – Teratix 05:58, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look; it's much appreciated, Teratix. Schwede66 09:44, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

June music[edit]

story · music · places

Thank you for understanding that what mattered for Bach, week by week, was the liturgical year and not the calendar. I believe that a celebration of his work should be in his spirit. - Today's story is about the TFA, by sadly missed Vami_IV. In my support in 2018, I hoped to do justice to Schloss Köthen next - which I finally began today. For more related thoughts and music, look on my talk for 1 June. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:08, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Enjoy today's story, related to my topic of the year: 300 years Bach's chorale cantatas, and the first was written for today, - listen to the music, beginning with a French overture for a chorale fantasy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:40, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Franz Kafka died 100 years ago OTD, hence the story. I uploaded a few pics from the visit of Graham87. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:44, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today's story is about an extraordinary biography, Peter Demetz. - I uploaded a few more pics but leave the link, because there's a new one of Graham and his mother who liked it. - I pinged you to my WP:ITNN nom needing attention, Alexander Lang, did you get that? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:16, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the help in the case. - I wish nominations were not made before a minimum update was performed, - they result in opposes, and they stick and block the process. - New pics of spectacular weather. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:23, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today's story is about a tune used by Bach and Mozart. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:10, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think we need to keep working on it, Sca. That said, I sometimes come up with things and my wife asks: "Is that a saying in German?" Schwede66 15:17, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Alexeyevitch, I'm a bit under the pump at work and soon off to a conference. Things will be back to normal later next week. Maybe Marshalelec could offer some advice. Schwede66 03:47, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

your comment at WP:PERM/A[edit]

[1] I know, I looked at that one myself, and it obviously needed a lot of work, but the subject does seem to be notable. I'm just trying to be as kind as possible when declining requests from people who are trying in good faith to create new content, so they will keep doing that regardless of whether they get autopatrolled. Yeah, I don't know. I'm sometimes a bit stricter than other reviewers at AP, Just Step Sideways. But if someone isn't ready, putting the effort in and showing them what their shortfalls are might be quite revealing for them. Every once in a while, editors really take it on board and sharpen up their act. Schwede66 20:55, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's certainly nothing wrong with that approach, worst case scenartio is you improved an article. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 21:00, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
